Muay Thai is getting closer towards Olympic
The International Olympic Committee granted muay thai and competitive cheerleading provisional recognition as Olympic sports Tuesday. In three years, both sports can apply to become fully recognized Olympic events. For more: http://nesn.com/olympics/.
On Tuesday 6th December, The International Federation of Muay Thai has just received provisional recognition from the International Olympic Committee board, which is a good start towards becoming an Olympic sport.
International Federation of Muay Thai will now receive 25,000 US dollars annually for research funding and preparation for the next 3 years. After that the Federation can request a full recognition from IOC and, if granted, will become one of an Olympic event.
IOC sports director stated IOC recognised that Muay Thai is now becoming more and more popular among the youth with a lot of strong enthusiast. There are also more that 135 national federation and more than 400,000 registered member of the Muay Thai sport fedration.
